A WOMAN IS A SECRET – World Premiere by John Patrick Shanley

Things are heating up for the World Premiere production of A Woman Is A Secret by Pulitzer and Oscar-winning writer, John Patrick Shanley. I’m thrilled to have teamed up with Andrew Shaver as director, two-time META Award-winning dynamo from Montreal. I’m executive producing the project with my company, Rip Jaw Productions, along with Chris Hayes, Stacylee Turner, Claire Burns and Benjamin Blais.

We open at The Theatre Centre on March 20, with a Gala with John Patrick Shanley on March 21st, and a Masterclass with him on March 22nd. The Canadian Film Centre has partnered with us and are hosting him at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on March 23rd. A lot going on for Opening Weekend! A Woman Is A Secret is a series of short plays on love, lust and longing, linked together by classic love songs, performed by Juno-nominated singer/songwriter Matthew Barber. The ensemble cast is a dream team and we’ve assembled some of the best creative artists from across the country.

I play Blanche in French Waitress with Noah Reid and Karen Knox. In Last Night in the Garden I Saw You, I play Judy opposite Anand Rajaram. These characters are feisty and funny and rich in detail.

Last month I went to New York City to meet with John Patrick Shanley to talk about these plays, along with Andrew Shaver. He shared the back stories, the inspirations and the questions behind the stories. It was an inspiring afternoon, getting into some of the bigger questions in his works — life, love, the mysterious dynamics between men and women, theatre, writing and spirituality.

I can’t wait to bring these plays to Toronto, in this exciting World Premiere!
